The Seaspin Mommotti 190 Bìu is a multi-jointed sinking swimbait that combines the proven design of the renowned Mommotti 190 with a new level of movement and swimming action.
The concept originated more than fifteen years ago, when Seaspin developed the first prototypes of a jointed Mommotti 190, although the project never reached production at the time. The experience subsequently gained through the Strega and the Buginu lures from the Bìu family made it possible to revisit the original idea, refine its design and finally bring it to completion.
In Sardinian, Bìu means alive – a name that perfectly captures the defining feature of this lure. The design objective was to preserve the original Mommotti 190's shape, diving lip, balance, weight and in-water profile while introducing greater movement during a straight retrieve.
The technical solution features an articulation positioned exclusively in the rear third of the body. The front section therefore retains the characteristic hydrodynamic behaviour of the original Mommotti 190, while the rear section follows the swimming action with a smooth, natural movement. This configuration provides a more lifelike swimming pattern without compromising the lure's original identity.
The joint positioning has also been carefully designed to reduce the aerodynamic instability commonly associated with articulated lures. This helps preserve one of the Mommotti family's key strengths: its outstanding casting distance.
The Mommotti 190 Bìu measures 190 mm, weighs 36 g and is classified as a multi-jointed sinking swimbait with a non-rattling action. Internal weights are present, but extremely tight manufacturing tolerances prevent them from moving freely, eliminating unwanted internal noise. The weighting system has also been carefully calibrated to achieve a balance very close to that of the Mommotti 190 and 190 K.
During the retrieve, the lure operates at an approximate depth of 30–90 cm. Its sinking design also allows anglers to explore different water layers by adjusting the pause after casting, making it particularly effective when targeting predators such as barracuda.
Its swimming action changes according to retrieve speed:
Slow retrieve: subtle lateral movement with a natural presentation.
Steady retrieve: wider wobbling action combined with a slight rolling motion.
Fast retrieve: more pronounced lateral oscillation and a stronger rolling action.
The lure is fitted with three BKK 4X #4 treble hooks, engineered to provide high strength and corrosion resistance in saltwater environments. The established partnership between Seaspin and BKK ensures high-quality components suitable for tackling powerful Mediterranean predators.
Development began with handcrafted prototypes and 3D-printed components, all subjected to continuous sea testing from the earliest stages of the project.
The Mommotti 190 Bìu is the evolution of a classic: more movement, greater naturalness, without compromising the characteristics that made the Mommotti so distinctive.

Recommended Fishing Applications
Coastal Spinning: ideal for targeting predatory fish along rocky shorelines, beaches, piers and harbour structures.
Barracuda Fishing: particularly suitable for barracuda, thanks to its articulated swimming action and ability to explore different water layers.
Mediterranean Predators: designed for targeting bluefish, European seabass and other coastal predators, depending on fishing conditions.
Straight Retrieve: engineered to deliver a smooth, natural swimming action even with a simple steady retrieve.
Variable-Speed Retrieve: allows anglers to adjust the swimming action, from subtle lateral movements to wider and more pronounced oscillations.
Different Water Depths: the sinking design allows anglers to adjust presentation depth by varying the sinking time before retrieving.
Long-Distance Casting: the articulated configuration is designed to minimize aerodynamic instability while maintaining excellent casting performance.
Silent Lure Presentations: its non-rattling construction makes it suitable for situations where minimizing internal noise is preferred.
